The Rooted Gem Foundation focuses on building a foundation in people‘s lives that embraces who they are, where they come from, where they are going, and most importantly: the value they uniquely bring to the world!
Our parent company OCGems has been actively engaged with communities in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Uganda for the past five years.
In 2021, we initiated the “Day of Love and Humility,” which encouraged people across the country to perform a kind act for a stranger, no matter how big or small, without expecting anything in return.
This day was such a success that we have now established the 10th of January as an annual Day of Showing Love and Humility.
2025: Easter Weekend Soccer Tournament. We had the privilege of hosting an incredible soccer tournament in Polokwane, Limpopo. With the guidance of Coach Frans and the support of OCGems, the event became more than just a game, it was a celebration of hope, resilience, and opportunity for local youth.
2024: Holiday Outreach in Kimberley. On December 21st, the Rooted Gem Foundation, together with OCGems members, hosted a festive gathering at the Shelter for Women and Children in Kimberley. The day was filled with warmth, from shared meals and gift distribution to meaningful activities that celebrated the spirit of the holiday season. This initiative was a heartfelt effort to spread cheer, empowerment, and love during a time of year when connection matters most.
2024: Blanket Drive. In 2024, OCGems and the Rooted Gem Foundation joined forces to bring warmth and compassion to communities in need through our annual blanket drive. With every blanket distributed, we aimed to provide comfort, dignity, and hope during the colder months. This initiative was a reminder that even small acts of kindness, when shared together, can make a meaningful difference.
2023: Mandela Day Clean-up Initiative. What began as 67 minutes for Mandela Day has grown into a long-term vision of transformation. The Rooted Gem Foundation’s Clean-up Initiative reflects our commitment to supporting communities in creating sustainable environments and brighter futures. By joining hands to “Bring Nature’s Brilliance to Light,” we’re proving that collective action can turn small beginnings into lasting change.
2019: Visiting the largest refugee camp in Africa: the South Sudanese Refugee Camp.
2020: Donating Overalls, Dust-masks & Reflective Bibs to women in Artisanal Mining South Africa
2020: Day of Love & Humility
Handing out food parcels to families in need.
2020: Thanking our healthcare workers for their service during the pandemic.
2021: Providing a Christmas meal for 120 families in need.
2020: In Kimberley, South Africa we identified two young girls, aged 5 & 12 living in poverty. We reached out to the family’s and donated clothing, school wear, and stationery. As we served these two young girls, we were reminded as a team that we are all, Valued, Loved a Significant regardless of our circumstances or upbringing. We all possess a unique, God given gift to bring and share with the world.
2022: In partnership with soccer coach, Frans Mothapo in Limpopo, South Africa, we sponsored soccer kit’s and equipment to the value of R10,000.00. Frans runs a soccer program in a small village in Limpopo, aimed at keeping kids off the streets and away from drugs/gangs etc, teaching them the value of hard work and discipline.
We look forward to this continued partnership, as it is our hearts desire to continue investing & nurturing young lives.
2022: In partnership with Helping Hands in Zimbabwe, we donated clothes to 88 underprivileged children, aged between 3-13 years of age, living under extreme poverty.
We have continued investing in this particular community for over 15 months and continue to work together with the chief’s & elders of the community around finding sustainable solutions that will bring a positive impact to the community long term, as the adults living in this community are un-employed and cannot provide for their families, given Zimbabwe has an employment rate of approx. 90%.
Empowering the youth through education by providing support for children coming from very poor backgrounds.
Providing non-financial support for youth-owned businesses with the potential to positively impact their communities.
Still investigating where the greatest need is in the country before committing to a project.
Raising financial support to help orphans living in refugee camps through education. (Primary/Secondary/Tertiary)
Non-financial support for businesses that want to offer new opportunities (training, mentoring, employment) to orphans living in the refugee camp.
To Mr. Bhebhe and The Rooted Gem Foundation,
We want to thank you so much for the shoes you gave us. The people from Killarney Squatter Camp want to express our appreciation to you.
For the past few years, you have dressed us for Christmas. We live in an informal settlement where most people shun us, but you have made us your priority and shared what you have with us.
You have helped Sarah Ncube, an elderly woman, by giving her blankets. She was warm this winter because of you. You also helped Rosina Sibanda, a woman who had her hut and all her property burnt down. She appreciates the help she received.
We also want to thank your partners. We have never met them, but we believe they are sent by God.
My name is Christopher Simoko, and I have also received help from you and your partners. I am very grateful. We thank you for the food you give us every Christmas. No family goes to bed hungry on Christmas day because of you. You have taught us the meaning of love.
Thank you so much. Please pass this message on to your partners, and God bless you.
